Luftwaffe, JBG32, Germany 1983
Built alongside my USAF F-104C is this German F-104G Starfighter. The same comments apply for both models, but I added a resin cockpit set from Aires. This also contains photo-etch for the instrument panel and seat harness. The resin set fits well if one is patient with removing the excess resin and plastic around the cockpit area. I removed too much plastic around the instrument coaming and had to tidy that up. The detail in the resin set is very good and I recommend it. The rest of the kit was assembled from the box, except for the nose pitot, which I replaced with brass tube and wire. The finish is mostly Xtracolour enamels, as they were the only manufacturer I could find who did the correct colours, but the white trim is Humbrol. The kit decals went on and were great. I used Pollyscale Satin varnish because I found the flat varnish to be a little too flat. Now I think the satin is a little too gloss, so I've since expermented with mixing the two. I also added a couple of spare etched blade antennae which photos of this aircraft show were present. I finished this kit in Winter 2004.
